As part of the global One Billion Rising movement, Sarasota is hosting two events this Saturday. I’ll be a speaker at the afternoon event. See below for Saturday’s information, or One Billion Rising for more events and background.

A day-long celebration to end violence against girls and women will feature Golden Globe winner and V-day activist Dylan McDermott.  McDermott will be the keynote speaker at The Power of Love, Sarasota’s V-day event, at The Tabernacle Church and School 4141 Desoto Road from 1:00-3:30 PM. A VIP Champagne Reception with McDermott will be hosted by Selah Freedom from 5:30-7:30 PM at The Francis 1289 North Palm Avenue.  Ticket prices are $20 for The Power of Love and $150 individual/$290 couple (combined ticket option $165 individual/$300 couple) for the VIP champagne reception on The Power of Love includes local law enforcement discussion, as well as the international movement, Break the Chain with Lisa Bohn and Kelly Atkins. Win the chance to attend tickets to the VIP event the same evening.  The VIP event will introduce McDermott’s new groundbreaking mini-series Sugar as well as the Selah Project—an educational multi-media effort to tackle the complex issue of sex trafficking. These two projects are being created in collaboration with Ringling College of Art + Design and Semkor.
